Tips for a Faster Wireless Network at Home
No matter how much or how little you use the internet, everyone wants the fastest internet connection possible. After all, the internet is all about convenience, and what can be more convenient than pages that load faster, video playback that doesn’t stutter and streamed music that sounds its absolute best? EBOX wants to provide you with a few helpful tips for turning your wireless network into a blazing-fast beast.
Place Your Router in a High-Traffic Area
Wherever you and the rest of the people in your house use the internet the most is where you should position your router. Additionally, it’s best to lift your router at least five feet off of the ground in order to enjoy maximum signal strength.
Switch to the 5GHz Connection
2.4GHz is the default internet connection for a majority of electronic devices, but there’s also the 5GHz option. If there are a lot of people using your internet connection, it’s the equivalent of rush hour and a clogged interstate. To enjoy the open back roads to get where you need to go online, switch to the 5GHz spectrum. To do this, you simply need to adjust the settings in the wireless network setup menu.
Occasionally Reboot Your Router
Just as you don’t want to leave your computer awake for long stretches of time without restarting it, the same is true of your router. Restarting your router gives it a chance to “gather its thoughts” in order that it can provide you and the rest of your family with optimum performance and optimum internet speeds. To restart your router, unplug the power cable for at least 20 seconds before plugging it back in. Once that’s done, the router will need a few minutes to get going again.
Invest in a New Router
Depending on how old your router is, it simply may not be able to handle multiple Internet users. While you and everyone else using your connection will still have access to the internet on an older router, performance is likely to be sluggish. While shopping for a new router, be sure you focus on one that has a good processor, as they also determine overall internet speed.
Use an Ethernet Cable
While a wireless internet connection is a fantastic convenience, it’s not always the most practical option. Using an ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection is an especially good idea for streaming and gaming. The reason for this is gaming and streaming are resource-intensive activities that can seriously bog down a wireless connection. Keep everyone happy by hardwiring an internet connection for devices that don’t move around much.
Keep Your Devices Up-to-Date
Besides focusing on the router, you should also invest some time in making sure the devices you use to connect to the internet have the latest updates. Your current network drivers or firmware might be out of date, which can impede your internet speed. Run a software update on your computer, tablet, phone and anything else you use to hop online to ensure you’re using the latest and most reliable software.
Get the most out of your home internet connection by boosting your network speeds. Now you can easily enjoy a faster and more reliable online experience with EBOX.
